Waves and Ebbs of Democracy: Lessons learnt from Central European 'There and Back Again'

The course aims to explore various waves of democracy (and the backslides), and the transformation processes that are shaping countries’ policies in the last 30 years. The attention is paid to the states across the globe that are undergoing their changes now, as well as the ones in Central Europe that did so (or started this) around 1989. The concept of the course is to present the transformation of the Central European countries, but apply the experience at the countries that are facing similar challenges at the contemporary world. The course intends to familiarize the students with the theory of sociology, political science, economy as well as law, but also showcase the Central European experience and apply the good lessons on the countries that are developing now.
