Phones and Sim Cards
Students coming from countries within the European Union, Norway, Iceland, or Liechtenstein can continue using their mobile phones without any changes or adjustments in all EU countries and Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein since 2017. The prices stay the same as in your home country with no additional charges.
Students coming from the countries outside of the European Union are advised to buy a Czech SIM card to use during their stay in Brno. There are three main mobile operators in the Czech Republic – O2 (https://www.o2.cz/osobni/en/), Vodafone (https://www.vodafone.cz/en/), and T-Mobile (https://www.t-mobile.cz/web/en). All of them provide a variety of programs with data, as well as pre-paid SIM cards.
When making and international phone call, dial 00 followed by the country code. When calling a Czech number from a foreign number, use the Czech country code 00420 (or +420). When calling a Czech number from a Czech number, using the country code is not necessary.
Students who apply for the ESN membership (https://esn.muni.cz/become-member) receive a free SIM card with credit and 3GB of data for free.
