The Centre for International Cooperation and the ESN MUNI Brno (Erasmus Student Network) run an extensive Orientation Week prior to every semester. This semester, due to the bad epidemiological situation, the Orientation Week will take place mostly online. Nevertheless, we hope it will help you organise your administrative and study duties and get a smooth start to your studies.
This semester’s programme might change to reflect the current epidemiological situation in the Czech Republic.
Orientation Week for Autumn semester 2021:
Date of Orientation Week: Sunday 21 February to Friday 26 February 2021
Late January 2021: register for OW in google forms (+ pay for Survival Czech course).
February 2021: get your personal OW schedule.
The Orientation Week is free of charge, except for the Survival Czech course (200 CZK).
You may either buy the full Orientation Week package and get:
access to events from the extended programme such as Brno City Tour or popular Pub Crawl
two lessons of Survival Czech language course
gift package from Masaryk University
vouchers for free entrance to the most interesting cultural sites in Brno
see more info below
or, alternatively, you may attend the Orientation Week for free, without buying the OW package. This option will secure you access to compulsory activities (two online, two in person).
MONDAY ONLINE ADMISSION AND PRACTICAL TOUR IS COMPULSORY FOR EVERYONE!
Registration for Orientation Week will be done via a form – ask your coordinator for the link. Then, you will get a personalised schedule with the events you registered for. Some events are compulsory, and students are obliged to watch the live streams.
The Orientation Week is aimed at both exchange and full degree students, but full degree students have a separate admission – ask your coordinator for more details.
The Orientation Week programme has been modified in a way to prevent large gatherings and minimize the risk of spreading a potential infection in between participants. Students are required to find out if they have to observe a ban of free movement after their arrival and the level of the ban. In case of the less strict ban, they can go to activities that take place at the university, but not to others. In the case of the stricter ban, they cannot participate in any in-person activities.
Please keep in mind that we cannot return you money for the Orientation Week package in case you buy it and later find out you cannot attend it due to having to observe a ban of free movement or being quarantined, as the expenses for your participation will have already been made. If that happens, you can still use the vouchers and get the MUNI gits.
Can I participate in Orientation Week if I did not tick “yes” in my application online?
Although you did not tick “yes“, you can still apply. You just confirm your interest by paying the fee online in IS through the Shopping Centre.
I did not receive any instructions on how to pay for Orientation Week.
You should check your spam box - the instruction e-mail might have ended up there. If you still can’t find it, please contact your coordinator so that he or she can send you the e-mail again or see the instructions above.
I don’t have a payment card to pay the fee online in IS Shopping Centre.
You can use someone else’s payment card. Ask your parents or friends.
I will arrive in the middle of Orientation Week and did not pay. Can I participate in some events?
Yes, even if you cannot come for the Orientation Week itself, you can still participate in the City Hunt that will take place a week later. However, you need to register for it in advance.
I cannot come for the Orientation Week, not even the admission day.
That is OK, but it is important to watch all compulsory live streams (see above) to have all the necessary information. The live streams will also be available after the stream. If you cannot come to admission folder pick up, schedule an appointment with your coordinator by email.
I have some documents I need to have signed for my home university (Confirmation of Arrival and similar).
You can submit them to your coordinator during the admission folder pick up on Monday 22 February or during your individual appointment if you cannot come on that day. Your coordinator will confirm them, scan them, and send them to you during the Orientation Week.
