Medical Aid

With your health insurance (see the Health insurance section) you are entitled to visit any general practitioner, specialized doctor or dentist.

Unless it is urgent, we recommend making an appointment in advance on the phone. Don't forget to take the insurance card, number or any document proving your insurance.

If your doctor’s visit makes you miss some classes, or if the doctor tells you to be on bed rest for some time, don’t forget to take a doctor’s note stating the period of your absence and send it to your coordinator. They will then insert it in the IS and your absences will be excused. The rules at the Faculty of Medicine slightly differ, so please contact your coordinator at the Faculty of Medicine as well.

Before going to a doctor in non-emergency situations, you should consider getting a Czech insurance number.

Most of the medicines available elsewhere can be obtained here, though not necessarily in every pharmacy. In case you need some kind of medicine in the evening, at night or over the weekend when shops are normally closed, there is one non-stop pharmacy located conveniently close to the Main railway station at Bašty 2.

Make sure you have taken enough medicine with you to cover the whole stay in the Czech Republic. If you need a new prescription in the Czech Republic, use a prescription abroad within EU.
