It has been confirmed by the UK Government that EU students applying to study in the academic year 2018/19 will have their student loans, fees, and grants guaranteed for the entirety of their course, even if the course end date is after the point of the UK’s exit from the EU.

This applies to all EU students applying for an undergraduate or master’s course at a UK university in 2018 to 2019. EU nationals also remain eligible to apply for Research Council PhD studentships at UK institutions to help cover costs for the duration of their study.

EU students will, in the academic year 2018/2019, also be eligible for the same tuition fees as UK students for the duration of their course, even if it concludes after Brexit. Scottish university home fee status and loans for EU students are guaranteed for 2018/19 entry as well.

The full statement can be found on the government’s website here.

This year, the well-known rankings of best student cities of the world, as compiled by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), are ruled by the Czech Republic. In a brand-new category based on ratings from students and recent graduates, Brno and Prague achieved 4th and 2nd place respectively. The highest score went to the Canadian capital Ottawa, with Shanghai and Montréal making up the top five.

According to the QS website, although Brno is less well known than Prague, the Czech capital, it provides a great student experience: “The city gets extremely strong ratings for tolerance and inclusivity, and ease of getting around, while also scoring very well for both affordability and nightlife. Respondents praised the attractiveness of the city, as well as the large and friendly student community.”
