Aside from contracts with EU universities, Masaryk University has closed contracts with more than 70 partner universities outside the European Union, thanks to which MU students can study for up to two semesters at universities in Australia, Brazil, China, Georgia, Chile, Israel, Japan, South Korea, South Africa, Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, Taiwan, Ukraine and The USA.
Final reports from MU students are available (only in Czech) in the database CZS Final Reports and in IS OIS (since 2019).

Participation Conditions
- Study placements at MU partner universities are intended for students who at the time of their departure abroad have completed a minimum of two semesters.
- The minimum length of a study placement is one semester and the maximum is two.
- For each semester of study the student has a duty to gain 20 ECTS, or the equivalent in the credit system of the host university.
- Generally the programme is available to students at all levels of study, although some schools only allow study at some levels. You can find more detailed information in the description of the particular school on these pages.
- Students taking part in mobility must be active MU students full period, whether in the form of full-time or combined studies.
- The host school may have other supplementary conditions for the selected student.
- Repeated student placements at partner universities are possible but not at the same university.
- The given programme requires of MU students that on completion of their placement they submit a request for recognition of the subjects/credits from the foreign placement. More information can be found here.
Financial Conditions
- In most cases Masaryk University provides the students with a grant of up to 20 000 crowns per month of study if the student is physically present at the host university. Payment of the grant is however dependent on the Ministry of Education’s approval of the Contribution for Internationalisation for the given calendar year, which means that the CZS will only be able to confirm the grant at the last moment.
- In some cases the foreign university provides a financial grant. In such cases the Masaryk University grant is reduced or completely cancelled (see information on individual universities).
- The grant is NOT intended for online teaching at the host university.
List of Universities
(Important: The list of universities that it is currently possible to apply to can be found in the section Current Invitations)
Application
Applications can only be submitted electronically.
The application is made up of the following documents:
- Application form: see online application
- Motivational letter in English (in the case of studies in English) or in English and Spanish (in the case of studies in Spanish). In the case of studies in another language the motivational letter must be in English.
- You should deliver a separate letter to each university that you apply to.
- In the motivational letter you should not only present yourself but mainly supply the reasons that have led to your interest in the given university. The letter should also present your academic objectives – whether studies (for example information about subjects which you would like to take at the given university), or research (for example how you will use the placement to help you write your dissertation).
- The letter of recommendation must be delivered in a sealed envelope with the signature of the teacher across the seal, using the form provided (the Academic Reference Form can be found in the Documents section). The letter of recommendation can also be sent by the MU teacher, by e-mail from their IS e-mail address within the deadline for handing in applications to the CZSC, on the given scanned form including signatures. The recommendation can also be delivered in English.
- A record of marks from studies at MU in English (you can generate it by yourself in IS MU), or possibly a diploma supplement for already completed courses of study at MU or outside MU. If you are in the first year and you haven’t taken any exams at the time of application, please upload a blank transcript or blank document.
- A document on knowledge of the language, in which the teaching is to take place – in the case of English see the warning below, while in other languages it can be solved individually (a certificate is an advantage but not a condition).
- In the case that the applicant does not have a language certificate of the type TOEFL, IELTS, CAE or FCE (on the level B2), and is not studying English (at the Faculty of Arts of the Faculty of Education), it is necessary for them to take the English language test organised by the centre for international cooperation in cooperation with the Language Centre.
- The level of the test corresponds to the European classification level B2. The test involves listening comprehension, lexical and grammar knowledge and reading comprehension. The total length of the test is 60 minutes.
- A student who has taken this test in the past and is interested in repeating it must ask for the consent of the CZS coordinator.
- You can find further information about the CZS language test, including dates and a link to the application can be found here.
- Warning: In some cases a nominated student without a certificate must, after successfully managing the CZS selection process, take the TOEFL or IELTS exam (see acceptance regulations for individual universities).
As part of the application you can apply to up to three universities.
The selection process may also include interviews, which usually take place three or four weeks after the closing date for applications.
You can find the criteria for the selection of students in the Documents section.
Before Departure
- The student is obliged to complete and sign the Learning Agreement (transfer to the online version is in process, for more information, contact the CZS coordinator).
- The student submits the Learning Agreement to the authorised person in the MU department/faculty study section via which you will be departing. With their signature the authorised person agrees to the list of selected subjects and the indications of the recognition of subjects/credits.
- The student records their study placement in the IS MU (in the section Personal Administration – Personal Data) and uploads the signed Learning Agreement (at least from the side of the MU authorised person) in the IS MU system.
- On the basis of cooperation with the CZS and the host university the student must arrange visas, air tickets, accommodation and other issues.
- When purchasing tickets, CZS recommends arranging insurance for ticket cancellation.
- The student can also request a grant to support studies abroad. For this they will have to submit an electronic Request for a Foreign Grant (the coordinator will send it by e-mail to the address). Most often we pay the grant before the start of the placement – for this reason we recommend submitting the application with precise anticipated start and end dates of the studies, and not the placement, a month or two before departure. We send the grant on to the account as a one-off payment (for example for the whole semester, provided it falls within a single calendar year).
While Abroad
- After arrival at the host institution the student completes the selection of their study subjects, entering any changes in these into the form for changes to the Learning Agreement, which must once more be signed by the representative of the host institution, the student themselves and the MU authorised person.
- Before completion of the foreign placement the student arranges for the issuing of the Confirmation of Studies (which you can find in the Documents section) and also a statement of marks and any other documents required for the recognition of completed credits/subjects.
After Return
- After completion of their studies abroad the student must submit an application for recognition of subjects/credits from their foreign placement. You can find further information here. For this it is necessary that before their departure the student obtains from their host institution Confirmation of Studies (which you can find in the Documents section) and ascertains what form the statement of marks will take (in many cases this is issued after the departure of students). Both documents are essential for the submission of an application for recognition of subjects from the foreign placement.
- Within 30 days after the mobility's end students must complete the final report. The report is accessed via the ISOIS application (choose “Final Reports” in the “Programme” section).
FAQ
Does the Recommendation Letter have to be from the teacher at the Academic Level or can it be someone else?
The person who writes the letter must have the status of a teacher at Masaryk University. In this regard we also recommend that is should be someone who teaches academic and not language subjects, even though a language teacher will also meet the formal requirements. One of the main reasons for the recommendation is to also provide an academic opinion on the relevance of the given foreign studies to the study programme of the student at MU – this task is ideally completed by someone teaching in the given programme.
How can applications be submitted to more than one university?
Only one application can be submitted, but as part of this you can apply to up to three universities. But it is necessary to send a separate letter of motivation to each.
For the first semester of a two-semester placement is it also necessary to submit a Confirmation of Studies?
No, it is not necessary. The CIC requires confirmation of the length of studies only after the final completion of studies.
Is it acceptable to submit the report on the placement after completion of the placement?
Yes, you submit the report after the final completion of the studies.
Is it necessary to have advance confirmation of the Learning Agreement from the Muni coordinator for the second semester before the beginning of the second semester (i.e. submit it twice)? If yes, by when do I have to submit it? Or is it enough to send the Learning Agreement by the end of the first month of the spring semester?
It is up to you. We will be satisfied provided if you submit a copy of it in the final form (i.e. after all changes) within 30 days off the start of the semester.
Is it possible to fill in the application even without the letter of recommendation from a teacher?
It is possible but you must write to inform the programme coordinator that the recommendation you’re your teacher will arrive later.
